Fujitsu to Set up Fiber-Optic Network in Rural UK

Fujitsu announced that the company will build a fiber-optic network in rural areas of the United Kingdom, according to an April 14, 2011 report by the Wall Street Journal. It is reported that Fujitsu's network will be able to deliver super fast broadband to five million homes. It is estimated that Fujitsu will invest 1.5 billion pounds (US$2.46 billion; US$1=0.61 pound) to two billion pounds (US$3.28 billion) over the next three to five years in the project, and approximately 500 million pounds (US$819.67 million) will be provided by the UK government. Fujitsu is reported to team up with Virgin Media, TalkTalk Telecom, and Cisco Systems for the network project.
